Course objectives:

In the three weekly class hours, students work to develop their oral and written skills in French, learn or review basic grammar principles, practice oral skills through communication games and discussion of reading materials.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, students should be able to achieve basic communication in oral and written French, referring to past, present or future situations.

 

Requirements:

Ontario Grade 11

 

Restrictions:

Students with native or near-native ability in French, including Francophones and French immersion students, will not be admitted to this course. FREN*1150 cannot be counted toward a specialization in French. A Background Information Sheet must be filled out by each student and submitted on the first day of class.

Method of presentation:

The course will be interactive and conducted mainly in French. Active student participation is not only expected, but is a vital aspect of learning a language, and pre-class preparation of assigned materials is crucial to active participation. Students are encouraged to work on their own making use of suggested websites to reinforce their knowledge of the French language.
