Metabarcoding is a becoming a popular tool for monitoring and assessing biodiversity. A marker gene is amplified from bulk samples and sequenced using high throughput sequencing.
Reads are assigned a taxonomic identity and the resulting table comprised of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) that are difficult to visualize for large complex datasets. This project would focus on creating tools to visualizing OTU tables comprised of many different sites and OTU read counts. Additionally, this project would improve visualization of BLAST hit tables for OTUs to identify problematic sequences and conflict in taxonomic assignment. Knowledge of programming in R is preferred so the tools can be published as an R package.
