2008-2009 B.Sc.(Agr.)

Please Read Carefully!

Once a Schedule of Studies is published, the University does not go back and “fix it” when courses are deleted or changed. To help you keep track of what you need to graduate, changes to your Schedule of Studies are listed below. Some students find it useful to review these changes with a copy of their Program/Academic Evaluation in front of them. This way you can mark off what you have completed and what you still need to complete. Please note that substitutions won’t always show up on your Program/Academic Evaluation. If you find errors on your Program/Academic Evaluation, or if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your Program Counsellor.

Changes are listed for each major as well as a list of changes relevant for all majors:

Changes for All Majors:

AGR 1100 was last offered Fall in 2011. If you still require it, please contact your Program Counsellor.

AGR 1250 was last offered in Winter 2012. If you still require it, please contact your Program Counsellor.

AGR 2400 will last be offered in Fall 2012. If you will still require it, please contact your Program Counsellor.

BIOL 1030 and BIOL 1040 are no longer offered. If you still require one or both of these courses, please contact your Program Counsellor.

Changes for Agricultural Economics:

All AGEC courses became FARE.

Changes for Animal Science:

MBG 2000 has been phased out and replaced with MBG 2040. If you still need to take MBG 2000, take MBG 2040: Foundations in Molecular Biology and Genetics instead.

MICR 2020 was last offered in Winter 2011. If you still need to take MICR 2020, take MICR 2420: Introduction to Microbiology instead.

POPM 4230 is now only offered in even numbered years. Contact your Program Counsellor if this is an issue. If you are here in Fall 2012, this will not affect you since it will be offered.

ANSC 3300 and ANSC 4130 are no longer offered; plan to take 1.00 credits from the remaining courses on the list of Animal Behaviour and Physiology list.

ANSC 4550 is no longer offered. If you wanted to take it at one of your Animal Nutrition restricted electives, take EQN 4020: Feeding the Performance Horse (winter offering only) instead.

MBG 3090 will be offered via distance education only starting Fall 2012. If you don't want to take a DE course as one of your restricted electives, you can talk to your Program Counsellor about taking MBG 4030 instead. But you must talk to your Program Counsellor about it first (and as an FYI, MBG 4030's name will change to "Animal Breeding Methods and Applications"). If you use MBG 4030 for MBG 3090 it will not count as a restricted elective.

For those of you thinking about applying to the DVM program here at Guelph note that MCB 2210 is no longer going to be offered. A new course, MCB 2050: Molecular Biology of the Cell, is being offered. You will not likely have the prerequisites for it (BIOC 2580 and MBG 2040; you can't use MBG 2000 for MBG 2040 for this prerequisite!). If you are looking to take this course to get into OVC, I recommend that you take another acceptable cell biology course.

Changes for Crop, Horticulture and Turfgrass Sciences:

MBG 2000 has been phased out and replaced with MBG 2040: Foundations in Molecular Biology and Genetics. If you still need to take MBG 2000, take MBG 2040 instead.

CROP 2110 is no longer offered. If you don't have this or BOT 2050, or BOT 3050 (the new BOT 2050), please contact your Program Counsellor.

OAGR 2050 is no longer offered and OAGR 4160 will last be offered Fall 2012. If you were planning on taking either of these as restricted electives, please contact your Program Counsellor.

HORT 3350 and HORT 3230 will no longer be offered. HORT 3150 is a combination of these two courses and will start in Fall 2012.

EDRD 2010 has been deleted.

HORT 3260 has been deleted.

Changes for Honours Agriculture:

MBG 2000: Genetics has been phased out and replaced with MBG 2040: Foundations in Molecular Biology and Genetics. If you still need to take MBG 2000, take MBG 2040 instead.

GEOL 3130 is no longer offered. Take one of the other restricted electives.

CROP 2110 and HORT 3350 are no longer offered. You are required to take one of CROP 3300, CROP 3310, CROP 3340, CROP 4240, PBIO 3110, HORT 2450, HORT 3150 (new course if you are here Fall  2012) or HORT 4380 as a substitution if you don't have this requirement already. You must let your Program Counsellor know which one you are using for your substitution! Please email your Program Counsellor this information for your file.

AGEC 2700 is now FARE 2700.

Changes for Organic Agriculture:

CROP 2110 is no longer offered. Please contact your Program Counsellor if this is a concern; the replacement course will not be offered until Winter 2013.

GEOL 3130 no longer exists. Take ANSC 3210, CROP 2110 or NRS 3000 instead (but you can't double count these as restricted electives). You must tell your Program Counsellor which one you are using as a substitution. In Winter 2013, when AGR 2050: Agroecology will begin, you may use this as a substitution as well (as long as you let your Program Counsellor know, and assuming you are still here).

ENVB 3300 has been deleted.

EDRD 2000 has been deleted.

HORT 3260 has been deleted.

The Organic Agriculture major just went under major revisions that will be in the 2012-2013 Undergraduate Calendar (for the students starting in Fall 2012). Hopefully this does not affect ANY of you, but please contact your Program Counsellor if it does. The phase out of the old and phase in of the new will occur as follows: OAGR 2050, OAGR 3030 and OAGR 3130 are no longer offered and OAGR 4160 will last be offered Fall 2012.

The new courses will phase in as follows:

  • OAGR 2070 (a combination of OAGR 2050 and OAGR 3030) will begin Winter 2013.
  • OAGR 4050 (a combination of OAGR 4160 and OAGR 3130) will begin Fall 2013. Please (please!!) seek advice if you need help navigating this. If you weren’t able to take these courses when you were scheduled to, please contact your Program Counsellor.
  • OAGR 4180 and OAGR 2300 were both offered in Winter 2012. OAGR 2300 will last be offered Winter 2013. Update: OAGR 2300 will not be offered W13. Please discuss the option of taking MCS 1000 as a substitute with your Program Counsellor. OAGR 4180 will likely last be offered W13.
