THRIVE Thursday Talks

Please join us for the second CBE THRIVE Thursday Talk, as we welcome special guest Dr. Lynne Mitchell, Director and International Liaison Officer, Centre for International Programs, University of Guelph on Thursday, October 25 from 11:45am – 1:00pm in MAC 218. 

With over 20 years of international education experience, Lynne is well known across Canada for her contributions to the international education profession and her work with organizations including the International Educators Association of Canada and the Canadian Bureau for International Education. Her research interests include the role of international experiential learning in the development of students’ intercultural learning and development and the use of communication technology to internationalize students' classroom experience. 

In an increasingly internationalized campus and workforce, this talk will be focused on aspects of social and cultural well-being from a grad student perspective. Research highlights the benefits of diverse groups leading to better problem-solving, more innovation, and better outcomes. However, in order for diverse groups to work effectively there is an increasing need for the development of intercultural competency. Join us in an interactive dialogue about culture, intercultural competence and the stages of intercultural competency development and look at what you can do to begin to increase your own intercultural awareness.

THRIVE Thursday Talks is a new program geared toward all CBE graduate students. Each month there will be a one-hour talk over lunch that looks at one of the 8 aspects of wellness.
