LAICOS Enterprise Hub, with the help from the College of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph and Capacity Canada, will be hosting an event to highlight the importance of social enterprise in the food industry.

LAICOS Enterprise Hub includes 10 organizations from the Kitchener to Toronto corridor who support the development of businesses and non-profits with incubation and acceleration services. The event will include interactive displays that promote the value of social enterprise in the food industry.

Normally, if you tell a Guelph student they’re going to be stuck in the Science Complex all weekend, perhaps even into the night, they are apprehensive to say the least. During the Improve Life Challenge, though, they jump at the chance to band together with other students, community partners, and mentors to solve some of the world’s biggest problems.

U of G business students are national champions after winning the 2018 HotelNext Canada competition in downtown Toronto on April 24th.

The competition gives Canadian University students a chance to showcase their inspiring designs on an under-performing hotel. Students chose a market, reviewed operating history, made renovation recommendations and presented a capital plan.

A new business consulting course at the University of Guelph is taking learning outside the classroom to help the people of Campobello Island, New Brunswick, through community engagement and experiential learning.

One of the biggest issues facing the community of about 1,200 people is its geographic isolation. The island is accessible by ferry only four months of the year. To get there by land, visitors need to cross a bridge from Maine to the island.

A team of U of G business students have been awarded one of 17 AIM2Flourish awards – a United Nation’s supported academic competition that celebrates real sustainable business innovations. The U of G students were chosen from 503 essay submissions from across the world.

Students are asked to submit essays to AIM2Flourish that best meet each of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). AIM2Flourish identifies the essays that best communicate each of the 17 SDG’s.

Two U of G teams, consisting of primarily U of G BComm students, are among the AIM2Flourish 2018 Flourish Prize finalists, which includes 63 finalists from 28 business schools across 15 countries.

Providing the Power to Grow – written by James Apps, David Garden, Brandon Kolar, Anees Khan, and Olajide Ebun from the University of Guelph, under the direction of Professor Ruben Burga.

U of G business students are helping educate local high school and elementary school students on how businesses can think and act more sustainably.

The group – called My World, My Choice – is an educational mentorship program where junior and senior students in the Guelph community are taught to develop business projects that are not only profitable, but are also beneficial to society and the environment.

The University of Guelph’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) has been named Champion of the United Nations initiative Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) for another two-year period. Over the next two years, CBE will continue to contribute to thought and action leadership on responsible management education in the context of the United Nations sustainable development agenda and will actively engage in the PRME Champions’ flagship project, “Mainstreaming the SDGs in PRME Institutions.” 

Dean of U of G’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) Julia Christensen Hughes will soon head to Davos, Switzerland to attend the highly publicized World Economic Forum on January 23-26, 2018.
