Congratulations to School of Hospitality, Food & Tourism Management (HFTM) student, Amber Douel, on being awarded the 2016 Hotel Ontario Hostelry Institute (OHI) Gordon Cardy Hotel Management Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship recognizes enthusiastic and dedicated students entering their careers in the foodservice or hospitality industry.

Over the last year, Douel, a fourth-year Hotel and Food Administration (HAFA) co-op student, has been working with her co-op employer Coast Hotels Ltd. She is currently completing the final two years of her commerce degree.

“I am so honoured to have been chosen to receive this prestigious scholarship," said Douel. "While on my co-op placement, I was fortunate enough to not only gain experience and insight in the hotel industry, but also work and travel throughout Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. I am excited to be back at the University of Guelph and continue my involvement with the Hotel, Food and Tourism Management Students’ Association as well as the Hotel Association of Canada’s Guelph Student Chapter.”"

Established in 1977, the OHI consists of leaders in the hospitality industry advocating for encouragement and support of post-secondary students pursuing the food and hospitality industry as a career.

Amber will be recognized for her award at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto on October 29, 2016.
