Group shot of ASG case competition participants

Four of our accounting students will be spending some quality time at PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) Toronto office, thanks to their recent victory at the Accounting Society of Guelph’s (ASG) first case competition. Manpreet Kaur, Tekel Nasvlishvili, Paige Piczak and Nils Blackwell will have the opportunity to learn about the firm’s lines of services, meet with professional accountants and learn more about the process of becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).

The case competition was held January 25 and attracted six groups of students who deliberated over a challenging accounting and business ethics case. Competitors presented their results to a panel of judges that included experienced professional accountants.

The judging panel included alumni and industry reps who also shared their experiences with students following the event:

  • Michael Lanteigne, CPA, CMA - Manulife Canadian Division
  • Sal Bianco, CPA, CA  - PricewaterhouseCoppers
  • Stephen DiGiacomo, CPA, CA – Deloitte
  • Niv Majar, CPA, CA - Ernst and Yonge
  • Emily Roe - Manulife Canadian Division
  • Romi-Lee Sevel, CPA, CA – Richter
  • Wayner Haymar, FCPA, FCGA - Newman & Sversky LLP
  • Laura Gay, CPA, CA - Stern Cohen

Congratulations to all competitors, the ASG and our accounting faculty for making this successful event possible.
