July 7: Tipping research makes national headlines

University of Guelph tipping experts, Mike von Massow and Bruce McAdams, talk about the results of their recent study that interviewed about 100 managers and servers on the topic. What they found was that tipping causes a number of challenges ranging from controlling the quality of service to rivalry among staff.

University of Guelph brothers collaborate to win rental housing challenge

For Real Estate and Housing (REH) student Daniel Foch and Landscape Architecture (LA) student Kyle Foch, winning York Region’s Make Rental Happen Challenge was a family affair. Tasked with creating a rental housing solution for York Region, the University of Guelph brothers combined their knowledge and proposed rental housing options that topped international competitors and won bragging rights and a $5,000 grand prize.

July 3: Prof. Sylvain Charlebois writes on economic consequences of animal welfare; Prof. Kerry Godfrey writes on business programs at U of Guelph

July 2: Dean Julia Christensen Hughes announces new appointments

Dr. Julia Christensen Hughes, Dean of the College of Business and Economics, announced two appointments today. Effective August 1, Dr. Statia Elliot will become the Director of the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management for a five year term, renewable. Statia brings with her 10 years of management and consulting experience within the industry and has been a faculty member at the University of Guelph since 2007. 

June 30: Intrigue Media nabs Small Business of the Year Award at Guelph Awards of Excellence

Intrigue Media founders Paul Demarco and Rob Murray launched their digital advertising and marketing firm to gain practical business experience during their degree.

June 26: University of Guelph brothers win Make Rental Happen Challenge

Daniel and Kyle FochTwo University of Guelph students recently received first place, $5000 and high praise from a panel of judges at York Region's Make Rental Happen Challenge. Brothers Daniel and Kyle Foch beat out rental housing proposals from post-secondary students across Canada and Yale University in the United States. Their proposal included building street level retail space for artists with affordable housing above.
