About

Biography

Steve Smith holds a PhD in Recreation and Resources Development, Texas A7M University, where his research focused on tourism and urban parks.  His first position was with Recreation and Park Resources, Michigan State University, where he pursued diverse interests, including tourism, culinary tourism, and the history of English theatre.  In 1976, he moved to University of Waterloo, where he taught and researched for 38 years.  He served in a variety of capacities, including Department Chair and University Senator.  After retiring in 2013, he accepted a part-time position in the School of Hospitality, Food, and Tourism Management.  He continues to do research, write books, and work with graduate students.  Steve very much enjoys working in a School with strong ties to industry and colleagues who share his interests in tourism and cuisine.
