Cohort 9 of The Hub Incubator

Posted on Thursday, February 8th, 2018

With a new semester comes a fresh Cohort of exciting businesses into The Hub. With this Cohort The Hub continues to support businesses from a wide variety of industries. This Cohort's businesses have amazing products and services and without further ado we would love to share more with you about each business.

Dronemates

Our names are Evan Lavine and Nic Altobelli; we are Dronemates. We are a couple of young entrepreneurs based in the GTA using drone technology to capture aerial imagery. Reaching new heights to gain a unique perspective, we want to share a whole new world with you. As two highly involved students at the University of Guelph, starting a business seemed like a natural next step for both of us. This business sprouted out of a passion for photography and film which has organically expanded to the drone platform. Whether it be for entertainment, advertising, or data collection, Dronemates is capable of providing the aerial services you need.

Fibrtex

Fibrtex is exploring eco-friendly and sustainable solutions to animal leather. The leather we use today is not eco-friendly and produced inhumanely. Our goal is to provide a viable alternative material for the fashion, interior design, and furnishing industries.

Kreeyo

Kreeyo is a platform that connects parents in need of childcare, with qualified childcare providers. The main objective of Kreeyo is to create peace-of-mind for both the parents, as well as the child care providers. Within minutes, parents have the ability to book sitters in their area through the Kreeyo website or mobile application, as well as find a home-daycare that fits their childcare needs. To ensure the safety of children, child care providers on Kreeyo undergo background and security checks, as well as a strict rating system is used to help gather feedback from parents (did somebody say "reference check"). Kreeyo hopes to establish a strong community of both sitters and parents, helping to bridge gaps and address the growing need for reliable, affordable and convenient childcare services in Ontario.

Udderly Ridiculous

Udderly Ridiculous is an artisanal goat milk ice cream producer. We use the highest quality ingredients (sourced as locally as possible), including milk from our own goat farm in Oxford County. We believe ice cream should taste Udderly amazing, so using the finest ingredients and interesting flavor combinations even the most discerning foodie will be excited. We believe ice cream should be Udderly enjoyable. For the lactose sensitive and health conscious, using goat milk and cream offers a more digestible treat which is lower in lactose and higher in calcium, proteins and vitamins. We believe we are Udderly responsible for our food sources and our neighbors, so being a 3rd generation farm and partnering to support other family farms at home and abroad is something we take seriously. We know this is an Udderly Ridiculous adventure, and we look forward to inviting you on it with us!

Partrunnr

The Partrunnr platform helps connect companies that can provide on-demand heavy equipment services with those that need them.  Users can request or provide geo-localized services, monitor the progress of jobs underway, and pay and receive payment instantaneously, all on one customized dashboard. Partrunnr is helping minimize downtime and improve the bottom-line of rugged, all-season businesses in Ontario. www.partrunnr.com

Selene Biosystems

Selene Biosystems Corporation specializes in the design and manufacture of rapid lateral flow assays. These small yet powerful devices are the heart of many biological assays, including pregnancy tests and food allergen detectors. Using novel chemistry, we have designed a series of assays that can be used in such diverse fields as industrial bakeries, crop quality control and medical diagnostics. The demand for these assays will continue to increase in the coming years, as the heavily regulated food and agricultural sectors rely on innovative and cost-effective approaches to their quality control needs.

Stay tuned on our blog and social media to follow these businesses as they progress through The Hub, and experience startup life's successes and failures firsthand.
