InfoSec Blog - Warning Message Added to All External Email

Phishing awareness and prevention is a high priority for the Information Security team. Beginning on May 4, 2020, a warning message will be added to all incoming external email as a proactive anti-phishing measure. This action, which has come about as a result of careful review and collaboration, will apply to all campus users including students, staff and faculty.
Once enabled, all email originating from an external source will have the following warning message affixed to the top of the email message:
CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the University of Guelph. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. If in doubt, forward suspicious emails to IThelp@uoguelph.ca
The use of a warning message on external email has become common practice in many organizations and has proven to be very effective at helping users recognize potentially dangerous email messages.
