Outlook 2013 Configuration

There are three types of setup of Outlook 2013:

 

Automatic Account Setup (Auto-Discovery - Recommended)

If you have a Zimbra Profile already in Outlook, you should create a new Office365 Outlook profile. 

/!\  If you override your Zimbra Connector Profile, you might lose your data, make sure to follow the instructions below to create a new Outlook Profile separate from your Zimbra Connector Profile.
Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open "Control Panel" and click "Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013)".Visualization of the "Mail" option.
  2. Click "Show Profiles". If there is a previous Zimbra account, leave it alone. Visualization of the "Show Profiles" button.
  3. Click "Add". Visualization of the "Add" button.
  4. Enter your name under "Profile Name", then click "OK". Visualization of the "Ok" button.
  5. In the "Auto Account Setup" enter the following:
    1. Enter your full name under "Your Name".
    2. Enter your email address (yourID@uoguelph.ca) under "Email Address".
    3. Enter your password (central ID) under "Password".
    4. Click "Next".Visualization of the "Email Account" radio button,fields to type in, and "Next" button,.
  6. Click "Finish". Visualization of the "Finish" button.
  7. Congratulations! Your account is now set up!

 Manual IMAP Setup

IMAP enables you to Send and Receive emails through Outlook, you will not have access to your Calendar, Tasks and the other features. 
Please follow the instructions below for IMAP setup for Outlook 2013: 

  1. Open "Control Panel" and click "Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013)". Visualization of the "Mail" option in Control Panel.
  2. Click "Show Profiles". If a Zimbra account exists, leave it alone. Visualization of the "Show Profiles" button.
  3. Click "Add". Visualization of the "Add" button.
  4. Enter your name under "Profile Name" then click "OK". Visualization of the "Ok" button.
  5. Select "Manual setup or additional server types" at the bottom of the window then click "Next". Visualization of the "Manual setup" radio button and "Next" button.
  6. Select "POP or IMAP" then click "Next". Visualization of the "POP or IMAP" radio button.
  7. Enter the following:
    1. Enter your name under "Your Name".
    2. Enter your email address (yourID@uoguelph.ca) under "Email Address".
    3. Ensure "Account Type" is IMAP.
    4. Enter "outlook.office365.com" under "Incoming mail server".
    5. Enter "smtp.office365.com" under "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)".
    6. Enter your email address (yourID@uoguelph.ca) under "User Name".
    7. Enter your password (central ID password) under "Password".
    8. Ensure "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is checked.
    9. Click "More Settings". Visualization of the above nine steps.
  8. In the "Outgoing Server" tab, check the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box then click "OK". Visualization of the "My outgoing server" checkbox.
  9. In the "Advanced" tab, under "Server Port Numbers" section, enter the following:
    1. Enter "993" under "Incoming Server (IMAP)".
    2. Ensure "Use the following type of encrypted connections" is set to "SSL".
    3. Enter "587" under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
    4. Ensure "Use the following type of encrypted connections" is set to "TLS".
    5. Click "OK". Visualization of the above five steps.
  10. Click "Next". Visualization of the "next" button.
  11. Once both tasks have been completed, click "Close". Visualization of the "close" button.
  12. Congratulations! Your email account is now set up. Open Outlook 2013 to begin using the application.

Manual Exchange Web Services Setup

Exchange Web Services is the protocol used by Outlook to sync your Email, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks. 
If the Auto-Discovery fails, the Manual setup can be used. 
If you have a Zimbra Profile already in Outlook, you should create a new Office365 Outlook profile.

  1. Open "Control Panel" and click "Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013)". Visualization of the "Mail" option in Control Panel.
  2. Click "Show Profiles". If you do not see this window skip to step 3. Visualization of the "Show Profiles" button.
  3. Click "Add". Visualization of the "Add" button.
  4. Enter your name under "Profile Name" and click "OK". Visualization of the "Ok" button.
  5. Ensure "Manual setup or additional server types" is selected then click "Next". Visualization of the "Manual setup" radio button and "Next" button.
  6. Ensure "Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service" is selected, then click "Next". Visualization of the "Microsoft Exchange" radio button.
  7. Complete the following actions:
    1. Enter "outlook.office365.com" under "Server".
    2. Enter your email address (yourID@uoguelph.ca) under "User Name".
    3. Click "More Settings ..." Visualization of the above three steps.
  8. Under the "Security" tab, do the following:
    1. Ensure "Encrypt Data between MS Outlook and MS Exchange is UNCHECKED.
    2. Ensure "Anonymous Authentication" is chosen under "Logon network security". Visualization of the above two steps.
  9. Under the "Connections" do the following:
    1. Ensure "Connect to MS Exchange using HTTP" is checked, then click "Exchange Proxy Settings".
    2. Enter "outlook.office365.com" under "Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange".
    3. Ensure "Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate" is checked then enter "msstd:outlook.com" in the box below.
    4. Ensure "On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" is checked.
    5. Ensure "On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" is checked.
    6. Ensure "Basic Authentication" is selected under "Proxy Authentication Settings"
    7. Click "OK".
    8. Click "Apply" then "OK". Visualization of the above eight steps.
  10. Click "Check Name" then click "Next". Visualization of the "Check Name" and "Next" buttons.
  11. Complete the following:
    1. Enter your email address (yourID@uoguelph.ca) and your password (central user ID password).
    2. Ensure "Remember my credentials" is checked.
    3. Click "OK". Visualization of the above three steps.
  12. Congratulations! Your email account is now set up. Open Outlook 2013 to begin using the application.
