Request Service Provide Feedback Report Incident

The Course Evaluation (CEVAL) system allows students to evaluate both course content and teaching effectiveness. Comments and evaluation form part of the information used by the Tenure and Promotions Committee in evaluating faculty members' contributions in the area of teaching.

Course evaluations are completed by students and processed by Course Evaluation Coordinators (CECs). The CECs are staff appointed by the Departments. Instructors cannot be authorized as CECs and do not have access to individual results.

The CEVAL system is implemented on the University website and is accessed using an Internet browser. The system can accommodate both online questionnaires and paper forms. Typically, the course evaluation period is the last two weeks of the semester before final exams.

For students, the system provides email reminders to complete the questionnaire and allows the students to view their own responses. For CECs, the system provides tools for creating a course questionnaire and reporting its results.

Service Expectations

Item Expectation
CEVAL service availability 24x7 except for scheduled maintenance (see CCS Service Updates schedule).
Course evaluation questionnaire posted online Within 5 business days after a CEC submits a verified Course Evaluation Spreadsheet for a course.
Course evaluation results available Reports are viewable onscreen immediately upon request.  Printed reports are available within 24 hours of request.
Scanning of paper questionnaires Within 48 hours of submission of cards to office.  It is the course evaluation coordinator's responsibility to ensure bundles are correctly prepared with a Request for Course Evaluation Scanning form, and header and footer forms for each evaluation contained in the bundle, as detailed in the CEVAL Help Manual

After verification, course evaluation spreadsheets should be submitted by the CEC a minimum of two weeks prior to the start of a particular course’s evaluation.

CECs should allow a minimum of 5 business days for the spreadsheet information to be uploaded into CEVAL.

Paper process is only supported for the forms detailed on the CEVAL Supported Scantron Forms page.

Costs and Purchase Related Items

There is no cost for using the service.

There is a cost to Departments for using ScanTron paper forms. One form is required for each student for each course. Sheets are available from Corporate Express, Product Z98UG03100 (500/PK for $39.56).

Who is eligible to use this service?

  • Students enrolled in courses for credit.
  • Staff appointed by their department as a Course Evaluation Coordinator (CEC).

Service Availability

Online system is available 24/7 with the exception of pre-announced maintenance windows that may occur between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on a Tuesday or a Thursday.

How Do I Request or Access this Service?
