Webex Events

Faculty Members: Please note that Open Learning & Educational Support (OpenEd) is coordinating academic support for faculty and recommends Zoom for online teaching and learning purposes for classes up to 300 students. If you haven’t done so yet, please contact Courselink support at 519-824-4120 Ext. 56939, or via email at courselink@uoguelph.ca to evaluate if Zoom can meet your online class needs.

CCS offers two main tools to support remote meetings and collaboration: Webex Meetings and Microsoft Teams are the standard meeting/collaboration tools for staff who are working collaboratively and/or remotely. For instances where event functionality is needed (larger audiences, ability to mute participants, etc.), we have made Webex Events and Microsoft Teams Live available as well.

Webex Events is a cloud-based event broadcasting solution that performs a similar function to Webex Meetings but offers a number of features that are not available in Webex Meetings, e.g., preventing participants from unmuting their microphones and keeping attendee lists private. Webex Events is available by request for faculty and staff.

NOTE: CCS recommends using Webex Meetings over Webex Events for a number of reasons, including ease of scheduling and Office 365 integrations. CCS can assist you in determining if your requirements can be met by using Webex Meetings. NOTE: Not all features listed are available with the University of Guelph services subscription. For example, the maximum number of participants for Webex Events is 1000 (not 3000) for the University of Guelph.
