The students, staff, and faculty of the School of Computer Science would like to say hello and welcome to the incoming 2014 computer science students.

To start your first semester off right, join us at the following events.

Meet the Majors (Wednesday September 3, 10am-11am, MACN 105) Meet the Majors is a chance for you to meet other first year students in Computer Science and Software Engineering, and find out what makes the two majors different. Greg Klotz, the Program Counsellor, will be there to talk about the academic differences and requirements of the majors. Four upper year students (Erica, Justin, Mia, and Ryan) will talk about their experiences so far, and give tips on selecting electives, getting involved with student groups, and steps for success.

Beyond the Code (Wednesday September 3, 11am-12pm, THORN 2418) Join Dr. Daniel Gillis and several upper year students to discuss the various opportunities on and off campus for computer science students. Learn about tech socials, meet up groups, hackathons, and other things you can do beyond the classroom. You'll learn about some of the many successes of our current and recently graduated students. You'll also learn how our students have used computer science to make our community and the world a better place. And you'll also have an opportunity to see some of the ongoing projects that our students and faculty are working on. Beyond the Code will take place in the Pi Lab (THORN 2418).

SoCS Annual BBQ (Thursday September 4, 5pm-8pm, Johnston Green) Celebrate the start of the university year by joining us for some great food, cotton candy, music and activities while connecting with the computer science community! Did we mention there will be a mobile video game truck? Join us for our BBQ and video game party on wheels! Free event for all students.
