MSc Graduate Nominated for the Prestigious D.F. Forster Medal

Congratulations to Corey Alexander who was selected as the College of Physical & Engineering Science nominee for the D.F. Forster Medal. Corey recently completed his Master's in Computer Science, focusing on the gamification of online surveys for public health data collection.

The D.F. Forster Medals are named for the late Donald Forster, a former president of the University of Guelph. The awards recognizes academic achievement, motivation, leadership and citizenship. The Forster Medals are awarded annually to one convocating Master's student and one convocating PhD student and are the most prestigious graduate convocation awards. 

Corey Alexander has been an active member of the University of Guelph since he began his undergraduate degree in Fall 2010. Corey has demonstrated a strong commitment to academics, the university and the broader community in countless ways, truly exemplifying the virtue of good citizenship. During the course of his undergraduate and graduate studies, Corey has:

  • Achieved the 3rd highest GPA of graduating MSc students in Computer Science
  • Nominated by his peers for the OAC Class of ’60 Outstanding TA Award in 2015
  • Nominated for the University of Guelph Student Life’s Graduate Leadership Award in 2015
  • Awarded the University of Guelph Student Life's Be The Change Award in 2015
  • Awarded Guelph Mercury's 40 under 40 in 2015
  • University Representative for the Ontario Universities' Fair, Fall Preview Day, Spring Academic Open House, CPES Graduate Open House and numerous high school classroom visits (2014-2016)
  • Volunteer for Food Waste Hackathon (2014), NetZero Hackathon (2015) and Hunger Awareness Week (2015)
  • Founding member of the Guelph Coding Community that develop workshops and presentations for students interested in computer science, entrepreneurship and technology (2013-2015)
  • Acted as a Project Manager for both the Farm to Fork and Meal Exchange Trick or Eat program that addresses food insecurity in the community
  • Co-authored several peer reviewed academic papers and presented at various academic conferences

 

Corey has truly become paramount to the School of Computer Science, the University of Guelph and the broader community. His commitment to affect positive change is inspiring and we are beyond grateful for his ongoing initiative, leadership and dedication.
