0:00 (light music) 0:01 - After Grade 11, I had no idea what university 0:03 I was going to go to. 0:04 I was doing a Computer Science class 0:07 and that's when I met Mr. Neil, 0:10 who was my Computer Science, Calculus 0:13 and first Robotics mentor 0:15 and he talked to me about his experience at the university 0:18 and how he came to be a teacher and his passion, 0:22 how he was supported by the university. 0:24 So his experience got me thinking 0:27 that maybe the University of Guelph could work out for me. 0:30 So I'm Eddie Dushime. 0:31 I'm an international student from Burundi, East Africa. 0:34 I'm a third year Computer Science 0:36 at the University of Guelph. 0:37 I'm also part of the Call programme. 0:40 The people that are in computer science are so knowledgeable 0:43 and they are always supportive when it comes 0:45 to sharing the knowledge and sharing their experience. 0:49 So the fact that I can learn from other people 0:52 and see that what I'm learning is going to be useful 0:55 to me in the future is, is very unique to me. 0:58 I don't think that there is many ways that can go wrong 1:02 in Computer Science, because there's so many different paths 1:06 and different things I can do after graduating that 1:09 I think it's very unique to Computer Science. 1:12 - Computers are in all aspects of our society today 1:16 And so students will go out 1:17 and work in the software industry, the computing industry 1:21 but also so in automotive 1:24 and in business and in financial technology. 1:27 Our programme really gives them the skills and knowledge 1:30 they need to work in so many different areas, 1:32 but really the sky's limit of what they can do. 1:36 - First of all, the fact that people just support each other 1:40 in different team and different categories 1:44 like students support each other, 1:46 professors support each other. 1:48 The experience that I have had 1:50 as a part-time student worker has been amazing 1:53 as they support me with my studies 1:55 as well as my work, everybody lifts each other up. 1:58 And it's amazing to see. 2:00 And that's the culture that I am talking about. 2:03 And that's the culture that made me fall 2:06 in love with the university. 2:09 (music continues)
