I am very pleased to announce that the Physical Science and Engineering Education Research Centre has a new Director – Dr. Dan Gillis (SoCS) has been selected to serve in this role for a two year term, beginning January 2017.  Please join me in congratulating Dan.

Dan brings with him expertise in experiential education through introducing community engaged scholarship into the classroom; and has also organized hackathons and other social media events to showcase and engage University of Guelph Computer Science students.  He is co-founder of the ICON (Ideas Congress) program, a senior level undergraduate thesis course that allows multidisciplinary students to collaborate on a community-based real world problems.  He now plans to expand these and other initiatives to promote discipline based educational research throughout the College Engineering & Physical Sciences.

The caliber of all the submissions for this position were outstanding, and signals a bright future for education based research in our College.

Finally, thanks to the members of the Steering Committee (Dan Thomas, Chemistry; Joanne O’Meara, Physcis; Gary Umphrey, Math and Stats; John Donald, SOE; Judi McCuaig, SoCS ; and Dale Lackeyram Open Ed)  who facilitated this process.
