Welcome to CPES!

Message from the Dean-Farewell to CPES

This Fall 2016 term marks my final term and the end of a wonderful ten years as Dean of the College of Physical and Engineering Science. My Portico messages over the last ten years as well as the reports have highlighted what has been a fantastic educational and research journey during this past decade.

But in my final report, I want to take this opportunity to say what really matters to faculty, staff students and alumni – Thank you!  CPES as a College has seen a lot of changes in the last decade and I would say that we have found creative ways to deliver wonderful academic programs and push research at the absolute creative boundaries. We’ve done this while engaging our faculty and staff in program and research delivery with great alumni support to make it all happen.

More important, CPES has been successful because of the commitment of all the individuals to make Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering mission at the University of Guelph as strong as possible. As Dean, I have seen this commitment delivered through a very difficult financial environment through most of my term. Everyone has managed it with dignity and resolve putting student success at the centre of our focus.

As I leave as Dean, I want to encourage faculty, staff and alumni to continue to help and support the new leadership as you have always helped and supported me. CPES more than ever will continue to have such a bright future because of who is committed to the College’s success.

I wish each and everyone of you continued success for many years to come.

Tony Vannelli
