D2L Migration

Welcome to Guelph's Desire2Learn Migration Information Site!

This site contains information and updates on the migration from Blackboard to Desire2Learn (effective Summer 2009) as the University's learning management system (LMS) for on-campus course websites. You can access information about the migration from the menu above.

We will be posting information to this site regularly. You can subscribe to receive updates via the email link on the right or the via the RSS feed below.

D2L is currently used by the Office of Open Learning for their distance and continuing education courses and we are excited at the prospect of adopting it for all of Guelph's online courses. Blackboard will remain the University's learning management software for Fall 2008 and Winter 2009. We plan to run a Desire2Learn pilot in the winter, but the vast majority of courses will continue to use Blackboard until Fall 2009.

Any work done to integrate online materials and activities will not be lost when we switch to Desire2Learn. D2L has a comparable set of tools to Blackboard and you will be able to do the same things in the new system. Keep in mind that the main work involved in using an LMS to augment your teaching is creating the content and integrating the activities into your teaching plans.

We would like to reassure users that the University is planning additional support personnel and resources to get through the migration, including, but not limited to, conversion assistance. We will work as hard as we can to minimize the time and effort for people to make the switch. We are looking forward to this transition!
