Dave Thompson has capitalized on the opportunity to work on challenging and innovative projects. As a student in Engineering Systems & Computer, he has used micro-controllers for voice encryption, designed software packages to control remote search and rescue robots and worked with digital design tools.
In his mechatronics course, Dave's design team was given the challenge to develop and construct an autonomous soccer playing robot. Using information from a digital camera, the robot had to detect a ball, and then take it to the goal to score: "Our mechatronics course at Guelph is a great introduction to the synergy between robotics, control systems, and electronics. With our background in both hardware and software design components, we are able to complete more complicated and challenging design projects."
