Collaborate with Academics

A variety of experiential learning opportunities are embedded into academic courses or programs, that industry and community-based organizations can collaborate with.

Placements

Host a student for a practicum, internship or externship at your organization for a dedicated number of hours per week. Possibilities include:

  • Practicum in Family Relations & Applied Nutrition: [1] Connect with the Department of Family Relations & Applied Nutrition to learn about setting up practicum placements that meet both student and community needs.

  • Flexible Internship Program [2]: Are you an employer in the food and agriculture sector? Become an industry partner with the University of Guelph.

Projects

Collaborate on course-integrated projects where students help solve your organizational challenges. Organizations can bring challenges into the classroom, or host students at their location while they work on a solution that meets their needs. Possibilities include:

  • Business Consultation Services [3]: Access student consulting services at the John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise and grow your business with fresh ideas from senior students.

Research

Partner with students and faculty to conduct applied research on-site, in labs or in a community setting. Possibilities include:

  • Community Engaged Scholarship Institute [4]: Partner with CESI to work with students on a project identified by your community organization.

Experiential Learning at the University of Guelph

Experiential learning is a core part of what we do at the University of Guelph. We believe that students benefit from engaging directly in workplaces and communities where they can apply their learning in real contexts. Our course-based and co-curricular opportunities are designed to develop transferable skills, expand awareness of work and community issues, and promote collaboration between peers, faculty, and external partners.
