Community Engagement Opportunities

Catalyst Experiences [1]

Catalyst Experiences offer community-engaged learning experiences that explore various themes related to social and environmental justice during the February Reading Week and throughout the spring and summer semesters. Programs are organized in partnership with communities across Ontario, Canada and the United States, and are amazing opportunities to learn more about pressing domestic and international themes and community initiatives that have global implications.

As a participant, you (and other amazing Gryphons) will have the opportunity to volunteer, learn about a social justice theme, and connect closely with communities in Guelph and beyond. Education and reflection components are also included to help you learn about critical social issues. Catalyst Experiences are an unforgettable part of your time at U of G! Visit the Catalyst Experiences page [1] for up-to-date information on this year’s programming.

Interested in leadership opportunities? Staff, faculty and graduate students can apply to be Team Leaders, and undergraduate and graduate students with relevant experience can apply to be Student Leaders. Follow the link above for more information!

Student Volunteer Connections [2]

Student Volunteer Connections (SVC) is your on-campus volunteer hub. We can help connect you with volunteer opportunities in the community and beyond that fit your interests, academic and career aspirations, and availability. Our services are available to both undergraduate and graduate students, online and in person. Please visit the Student Volunteer Connections page [2] for more information.

Experiential Learning Awards and Funded Opportunities [3]

Visit our Experiential Learning (EL) Awards and Funded Opportunities page [3] to learn about upcoming nomination deadlines for the Carl Rom Colthoff Experiential Learning Award, and for funded opportunities through the Experiential Learning Hub for community engagement off-campus.

Experiential Learning at the University of Guelph

Experiential learning is a core part of what we do at the University of Guelph. We believe that students benefit from engaging directly in workplaces and communities where they can apply their learning in real contexts. Our course-based and co-curricular opportunities are designed to develop transferable skills, expand awareness of work and community issues, and promote collaboration between peers, faculty, and external partners.
