Position Description:
The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, University of Guelph, is seeking applications for a Canada Research Chair, Tier 2, in Humans, Animals, and the Land: Integrating Social Science into One Health. The appointment will be tenure-track at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, based in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
Exceptional emerging scholars whose research examines the intersections of human, animal, and environmental health are invited to apply for this position. This might include, but is not limited to, research that looks at multi-species ethnography and research on the Anthropocene. Geographical area of expertise is open and should complement the existing strengths in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
Eligible applicants for the position must have a doctoral degree in Anthropology, Sociology, or a closely-related interdisciplinary field. Applicants must demonstrate research excellence and productivity, and will be expected to develop a productive, collaborative research program that addresses intersections among human health, animal, and environmental health. While this is primarily a research appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses and supervise graduate students in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
The successful candidate will contribute to innovative, multidisciplinary One Health research on campus. The CRC Tier 2 will be expected to work with other One Health researchers on campus, drawing on and building research strengths and capacity, and aligning with the University Strategic Research Plan and the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences Strategic Plan.
Eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair requires that applicants are exceptional emerging scholars and have fewer than 10 years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination. Nonetheless, applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree, where career breaks exist, such as parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, or other exceptional circumstances, may have their eligibility assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.
