Position Description:

The Department of Management at the University of Guelph’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate professor level. The successful applicant will become the named John F. Wood Chair in Innovation Management. This position will contribute to the entrepreneurial culture and programming of the John F. Wood Centre for Business and Student Enterprise. The start date for the appointment is July 1, 2020 or on a mutually acceptable date.

The Department of Management believes that business success depends on a strategic outlook, entrepreneurial attitude, global perspective, and a commitment to social and environmental responsibility. These values are advanced through Wood Centre programs such as the Hub, a space for innovative ideas to germinate and grow sustainable solutions to economic, social and environmental problems, to empower a new generation of leaders committed to community engagement and business as a force for good.

The position responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses that support The Lang School’s innovative and entrepreneurial programs, and a demonstrated record of scholarly inquiry through publications and community engagement to advance Lang’s commitment to the development of a more sustainable future. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic responsibilities of the Wood Centre, the Department, the School, and the University.

Applicants should have a PhD in Management or a related field, and a demonstrated record of scholarly inquiry in business innovation through research and community engagement. The successful candidate will seek to further distinguish the Department as an important source of relevant research in Management, and will conduct outreach activities to engage external contributors and disseminate knowledge to our business community. Preference will be given to applicants who have a track record of effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and of research publication in quality journals. We are particularly interested in candidates with industry experience in business innovation, and whose research can connect management theory with management practice.

The Department of Management has 22 faculty members and responsibility for two majors in the Bachelor of Commerce program – Accounting, and Management. The Department also offers a MA in Management, an undergraduate leadership certificate and contributes to Lang’s MBA, MA in Leadership, and PhD in Management. Faculty members are committed to Lang’s vision of being and developing leaders for a more sustainable world, and take a sustainable approach to organizational success through teaching and research in accounting, entrepreneurship, financial management, business policy/strategy, human resource management, organizational behaviour, leadership, and corporate social responsibility.

The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. Formed in 2006, the Lang School is the youngest college at the University of Guelph, but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled. Our School provides a learning environment that encourages critical reflection, personal growth, and promotes traditional and emerging themes of management and economics. We offer a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate, and professional education.
