Position Description:

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level.

SEDRD is actively involved in Canadian and international landscape architecture, planning and capacity development. Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph has an established international reputation offering two of Canada’s leading and enduring programs. For more than 50 years, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and the Master of Landscape Architecture, both professionally accredited programs, have produced landscape architects who practice around the world and participate in the full spectrum of the discipline. SEDRD invites applications from individuals who want to join as a colleague to work collaboratively in continuing to foster Guelph’s professional programs through rigorous instruction and research, and genuine interest in the knowledge areas and practice of Landscape Architecture.

The most common distribution of effort for SEDRD faculty is teaching (40%), research (40%) and service/outreach (20%). The ideal candidate will be an early career professional with the following qualifications:

1. An appropriate PhD degree;
2. Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in pursuing effective landscape architecture outcomes through leadership, collaboration and innovative design, preferably in an interdisciplinary team environment;
3. Demonstrated ability to raise funds for research and development projects from private and public sector granting agencies;
4. Establish record of publication (creative works included) in interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journals;
5. Work experience and/or educational background appropriate to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; and to supervise graduate student interests in at least three of the following subject areas: design theory; site planning and urban design; ecological design, green infrastructure and environmental resiliency; plant identification and planting design; professional practice; human health and well-being; and, analog and/or digital technologies for design communication and management.
6. Certification by a professional landscape architecture body recognized by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architecture (CSLA), or work experience and/or educational background appropriate to qualify for candidate status with one of the nine (9) sub-component associations of the CSLA within five years of appointment.
