Position Description:

The College of Biological Science has been given approval from the Provost and the Vice President Research to initiate a search for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. This will be an internal search that is open to faculty within the College of Biological Science. The CRC will be the area of Microbial Functional Genomics and Synthetic Biology. and the rank of Assistant Professor. The term is 5-years, renewable once.

New advances in genomic biotechnologies — particularly CRISPR-Cas-based tools — have revolutionized our ability to perform targeted genetic manipulations in a diversity of organisms and been instrumental in enabling genome editing of even the most intractable microbial species. The CRC will exploit cutting-edge CRISPR-based technologies for large-scale genetic manipulation and functional genomic analysis, in diverse microbial organisms, working towards applied goals related to animal and human health, and agriculture. The CRC will also develop novel and improved versions of CRISPR biotechnologies to address innovative and emerging research questions and applications. The successful candidate will be an emerging world-class scholar, with demonstrated research productivity and potential to achieve international recognition within the next 5-10 years, and will position the University of Guelph at the leading edge of research in microbial genomics and synthetic biology.

Eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair requires that applicants are less than 10 years since earning their highest degree at the time of nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree, where career breaks exist, such as parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, or other exceptional circumstances, may have their eligibility assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.
