Position Description:

The Department of Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph is seeking a leading scholar for the position of Lang Chair in Leadership. The successful candidate must be qualified and experienced to join our faculty as a tenured member at either the associate or full professor rank.

The ideal candidate is a globally recognized scholar in Leadership, Management, or a related area. with an active research agenda, a record of high-quality publications, and demonstrated effective leadership and teaching at the graduate level. This position is expected to contribute to the University of Guelph’s Strategic Research Plan theme of Improving Business Effectiveness: Management and Leadership. Candidates must hold a PhD, have record of publication in top leadership and management journals, and be qualified to join our faculty at either the associate or full professor level.

The research chair is expected to contribute actively to the research priorities of the Lang Strategic Research Plan through: a proven record of attaining competitive external research funding (particularly tri-agency grant funding); pluralistic or multi-stakeholder scholarly impact (dissemination of research knowledge to various audiences including other academics, industry practitioners, professional associations, decision makers and students); training of highly qualified personnel; and strong research quality (e.g. research awards). The successful candidate will seek to further distinguish the Department as an important source of relevant research in Leadership and Management, and will conduct outreach activities to engage external contributors and disseminate knowledge to the business community.

The Lang Chairs are expected to play a leadership role in the Lang School’s scholarly community and should therefore be a team player, ideally with a proven record of building collaborative relationships with faculty, students, administration and with academic and professional communities. The ideal candidate will be actively engaged in their professional community, including development of industry partnerships.

The distribution of effort for this position is expected to be 20% teaching, 60% research, and 20% service. It is anticipated that the candidate will commence their appointment in September 2021.

The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. Formed in 2006, the Lang School is the youngest college at the University of Guelph, but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled. Our School provides a learning environment that encourages critical reflection, personal growth, and promotes traditional and emerging themes of management and economics. We offer a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate, and professional education.
