Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph invites applications for a Chair and tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level.

The chair is a critical leadership position within the College and a valued member of Dean’s Council in advancing strategic initiatives for the College and University. The chair will work closely with the department’s Manager of Operations and forge numerous productive partnerships, with the Associate Dean, Clinical Program who oversees the hospitals. The successful candidate will have the ability to build effective relationships within the University of Guelph and with external groups. The Chair, in collaboration with the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies, will be expected to grow research and graduate training in the Department of Clinical Studies. In addition, the Chair has responsibility to the curriculum working with the Associate Dean, Students and Academic to ensure teaching excellence and advancing scholarship in teaching and learning.

The preferred candidate will be a successful researcher and educator, holding a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and an advanced degree or record of scholarship in a related area. In addition, the selected applicant will be board certified in their area of clinical specialty. The appointment will be for a five-year term, with the possibility of renewal following a leadership review for a second five-year term. The appointment is at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The Chair of Clinical Studies is an important role within the college’s leadership team. The incumbent is expected to build strong relationships with leaders across many areas of responsibility in the college. The chair will work closely with the other Chairs and the Associate Deans, Students & Academic, Clinical Program and Research and Graduate Studies in fostering productive collaborations and furthering the mission of the College. The chair will work in partnership with the Office of Strategy & Planning, led by the Executive Director, Strategy and Planning, on optimizing resources and moving new programs and projects forward in a sustainable manner.
