Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeing applications to fill two (2) tenure-track faculty positions in Large Animal Surgery at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The ideal candidate for each position should have strong skills in the clinical practice of large animal surgery and lameness and outstanding teaching and communication skills. An interest and capacity to provide outstanding service to clients and referring veterinarians and work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential. Experience in research and scholarly activity is required.

The successful candidate will work with three other full time large animal surgeons to provide clinical, laboratory and didactic instruction in large animal surgery to veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The successful candidates will have most of their effort dedicated to clinical teaching and service for large animal surgery patients in the OVC Health Sciences Centre, including participation in out-of-hours emergency duty equitable with the other members of the section. The balance of the distribution of effort will be focused on scholarly activity, including research and graduate student supervision, and administrative/professional service.

The caseload at the OVC Large Animal Hospital is primarily equine (90%) with some bovine, small ruminant, porcine and camelid patients. The Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) has a full spectrum of specialists available for consultation and/or support and the surgery service is supported by three surgery residents, 1 surgery intern and seven rotating interns. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC HSC are committed to delivering the best patient care in a "state of the art" facility including but not limited to a 1.5 Tesla high field General Electric MRI, and both a 16 slice and a large animal cone beam CT (Pegaso).

Position 1:
The applicant must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, must be a Diplomate of the American or European College of Veterinary Surgeons, and have demonstrated a solid line of research. Candidates for position #1 must hold a post-graduate degree (PhD, DVSc, MSc).

Position 2:
The applicant must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and ideally be a Diplomate of the American or European College of Veterinary Surgeons, but ACVS or ECVS board eligible candidates may be considered. A post-graduate degree (PhD, DVSc, MSc) is preferable, however demonstrated research activity is acceptable.
