Position Description:

The Department of Family Relations and Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level.

Responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, largely within our Applied Human Nutrition undergraduate major and within our graduate programs;
  • Participating in undergraduate and graduate curriculum development; and
  • Building a vigorous research program with a focus in any area of applied human nutrition, including graduate and undergraduate student mentorship and supervision.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed PhD (or ABD) in applied human nutrition or related field; and
  • Registered Dietitian who meets the eligibility criteria for registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ability to teach in the following identified teaching priority area(s): (1) community nutrition (e.g., our nutrition education and food security courses), and/or (2) foods (e.g., a new food systems course and the Master of Applied Nutrition food service course);
  • Demonstrated strengths in teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level;
  • A demonstrated commitment to accessible and inclusive teaching for all undergraduate and/or graduate students;
  • A demonstrated ability to include diverse perspectives and experiences, and work with diverse communities during their scholarly research, teaching, and creative activities;
  • A strong record of research with professional or post-graduate experience; and
  • A clearly articulated plan for an independent research program.

Department and University Description:

The Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition is housed in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Applied Science undergraduate program with three majors: Applied Human Nutrition, Child Studies, and Family Studies and Human Development. It also offers research-based MSc and PhD programs in the fields of Applied Human Nutrition and Family Relations and Human Development and two accredited professional Masters programs: a Master of Applied Nutrition program, and an MSc in Couple and Family Therapy. The successful candidate will teach largely within our Applied Human Nutrition undergraduate major and within our graduate programs.
