Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM) or have completed an ACVIM or ECVIM residency training program. A graduate degree is preferred.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in clinical small animal medicine and outstanding teaching, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential. The candidate will work with other ACVIM Diplomates to oversee the training of ACVIM residents as well as rotating small animal interns. Most of the effort will be dedicated to clinical teaching activities in the OVC Health Sciences Centre, which include providing small animal internal medicine case management and case-based teaching in the companion animal clinic to final year veterinary students. The remaining effort is to be spent on research/scholarly activity, didactic and laboratory teaching, and administrative service. The successful candidate will participate in out-of-hours emergency duty equitably with other members of the section.

The OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) offers state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment including but not limited to a 1.5 Tesla high field General Electric MRI, CT, digital radiology, PACS system, state of the art ultrasonography, scintigraphy, arthroscopy, total hip replacement, Ho-YAG laser, fluoroscopy, ultrasonic aspirator, renal replacement therapy (CRRT/PIRRT), therapeutic apheresis (mTPE, COBE Spectra), high-flow oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, videoendoscopy, and a 24/7 fully staffed intensive care unit. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
