Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Guelph invites applications for a contractually-limited position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking applications to fill a 2-year Contractually-Limited faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesiology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario, and be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA). Those who have completed an ACVAA or ECVAA approved residency training program may be considered. Completion of a graduate training program will be considered an asset.

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in the clinical practice of small and large animal anesthesia and outstanding teaching and communication skills. The ability to work within a team is essential. The successful candidate will work with 4 other board-certified anesthetists and board-certified specialists in emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, neurology, and cardiology to provide didactic and clinical instruction in anesthesiology and related disciplines to veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Most of the effort will be dedicated to clinical teaching activities, which includes the management of small and large animal patients, and laboratory and didactic instruction. The remaining time is to be spent on scholarly and service activities. Participation in out-of-hours emergency duty equitable with the other member of the section.

The OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) offers state of the art diagnostic equipment including but not limited to a 1.5 Tesla high field General Electric MRI, CT, digital radiology, PACS system, state of the art ultrasonography, scintigraphy, arthroscopy, videoendoscopy, and a 24/7 fully staffed intensive care. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
