The University of Guelph invites applications for a SSHRC CRC Tier 1 Chair. Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 annually for seven years (which can be used for salary and research). Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Applications from scholars who engage in interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary research, critical scholarship, and use different epistemologies are welcome. This is an internal search, limited to faculty members at the University of Guelph (and those with a firm offer of employment to the University that takes effect by July 1, 2022) and who self-identify as Indigenous or racialized.

This opportunity is open only to exceptionally qualified individuals who self-identify as members of two groups that the Employment Equity Act designates as equity-deserving in the context of contemporary Canadian society: Indigenous peoples and racialized groups. The identification of outstanding candidates from the designated groups is central of the University’s commitment to excellence, as well as to its capacity to fulfil the objectives of the University’s Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan.
This is an internal search, limited to faculty members at the University of Guelph and those with a firm offer of employment to the University that takes effect by July 1, 2022. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Positions are subject to review and final approval by the CRC Secretariat. Review of applications and nominations will begin on June 14th, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled.

- A four-page (maximum) statement that includes:
- An overview of the applicant’s research proposal, including knowledge mobilization and any innovation activities
- Alignment with U of G’s Strategic Research Plan and existing or emerging areas of research strength

Collection of self-identification data is a requirement of the CRC Program, and all applicants to CRC positions are required to complete the University’s self-identification form, the Applicant Tracking Questionnaire. While the questionnaire includes an option “prefer not to answer,” applicants for this position must self-identify as belonging to at least one of the two groups in order to be considered. Applicants who self-identify as an Indigenous person on the Applicant Tracking Questionnaire will be asked to confirm their First Nation, Inuit or Métis citizenship or ancestral and kinship connections in a confidential follow-up process. Self-identification information is collected by the Office of Diversity and Human Rights (ODHR) in support of the University's employment equity program. All self-identification specifics of candidates will be kept confidential by the ODHR.
