Position Description:

The Office of the Dean, Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level.

The Ontario Veterinary College has begun a search, internal to the university, for an Associate Dean, Clinical Program (ADCP) at the Associate or Full Professor rank. Applicants must be appointable to one of the academic departments at the Ontario Veterinary College. The initial appointment will be for five years and may be renewed once. Applicants must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent), have advanced clinical training (clinical residency, or equivalent with specialty board certification) and must be able to demonstrate previous experience in a leadership role within a clinical veterinary medical environment. A graduate degree relevant to this Associate Dean’s role (i.e., pertaining to clinical veterinary science, or management / business administration) or equivalent experience would be considered an asset.

As Associate Dean, Clinical Program you will be responsible for:

  1. Overseeing the delivery of first-rate medical care for referral and primary care patients in the four hospitals that comprise the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC), while ensuring excellence in client and referral veterinarian experience and communication
  2. Supporting the HSC-based experiential clinical training components of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and clinical program (e.g. Doctor of Veterinary Science, interns, etc) to meet the respective competency requirements of these programs, as well as training programs in other aspects of the college
  3. Advancement of the OVC HSC as a research-supportive clinical environment
  4. Ensuring that the OVC HSC operates in a fiscally responsible manner and compliant with all relevant regulations and AVMA/CVMA and AAHA accreditation standards

The OVC HSC operates several full-service hospitals: the Companion Animal Hospital, Large Animal Hospital, Animal Cancer Centre, and the Primary Healthcare Centre. In this role, you will provide leadership in support of high-quality healthcare delivery in these constituent units. You will oversee the OVC HSC annual operating budget ($29m in 2021/22) employing a budget model in which you will balance program expenditures against revenue derived from hospital services, provincial operating grants, and other funds, including donations and sponsorships. Creating a positive, collaborative, and progressive environment, you will supervise, mentor, and advise the various OVC HSC service teams comprising clinic heads, service chiefs, faculty clinicians, specialist veterinarians, locums, and the management team and staff of the OVC HSC.
