Position Description:
The School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Contemporary Sculpture Practices. We are looking for an accomplished, active artist with expertise in the practical and theoretical aspects of sculpture. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2023.
The successful candidate will hold an MFA or PhD in Studio Art or have equivalent experience. They will have extensive knowledge of/and an active studio practice in the field of Contemporary Sculpture including a practical knowledge in wood and metal fabrication. Experience with 3D digital processes such as 3D printing and CNC machining are an asset. Contemporary sculptural practices involving installation, sound, video, performance, social practices and public art would be welcome additions. Two years of teaching experience in sculpture at the university level is preferred. In addition, the successful candidate will have a strong exhibition record and maintain an active program of exhibition, research, graduate supervision, teaching, advising, and service as a faculty member.
The Studio Art program within the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph has a reputation for excellence in the education of young artists at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our current curriculum places emphasis on the development of traditional skills and methodologies, alongside an established and developing curriculum integrating a diverse range of inter- and cross-disciplinary contemporary art practices. We anticipate future growth in the incorporation of digital resources across our program and we are seeking a highly qualified team player to join our faculty and to provide leadership and motivation in this field. The successful candidate will integrate our resources within a pedagogical framework that delivers practical and theoretical training in both the digital, and hand-built sculptural techniques and methods.
Candidates will be expected to teach and contribute to the MFA program. The professional achievement in recent years of MFA alumni from the University of Guelph is unmatched by any other institution in Canada.
