Position Description:

The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Economics and Finance (Open to University of Guelph Internal Tenured Applicants Only).

The Chair is responsible for the effective, efficient, and collegial operation of the department. Ideal candidates will be dynamic, thoughtful leaders with an earned doctorate in Economics and/or Finance. An established record of success in teaching, research and service in one or more areas of interest to the department is required. Candidates should be committed to enhancing the success of the department and its programs by working effectively with, and being highly visible and accessible to, key stakeholders, including faculty, staff and students, and also with alumni, employers, and granting agencies. The ideal candidate will also have some experience in external relations, human resource management, planning and budgeting. Changes within the higher education environment suggest that the individual should also be an effective advocate for the social sciences, but also entrepreneurial and adaptive, willing to consider new approaches and revenue-generating opportunities.

The Department of Economics and Finance is a research-intensive academic unit consisting of 26 faculty members and offers a range of academic programs leading to the degrees: BA, BComm, MA and PhD. The Department is also an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph. The School delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 4,000 students currently enrolled, and offers a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate and professional education.
