Position Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Guelph invites applications for a 2-year contractually limited position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Canine and Feline Nutrition.

Applicants must possess the minimum qualifications of a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario and be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN) or the European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition (ECVCN) or have completed an ACVN or ECVCN approved residency training program. A graduate degree in a field related to companion animal nutrition is desirable. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in clinical canine and feline nutrition and outstanding teaching, interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere is essential.

The successful candidate will join a world-class interdisciplinary team that advances of pet nutrition science, trains undergraduate, DVM and graduate students, provides a pipeline for careers in the pet nutrition and veterinary medicine, provides nutrition education to pet owners, veterinary teams, and pet food industry, and offers clinical service and patient care through the OVC Health Sciences Centre Clinical Nutrition Service.

The successful candidate will have most of their effort dedicated to clinical teaching and service for canine and feline patients in the OVC Health Sciences Centre. Provision of didactic instruction to veterinary students, clinical teaching to fourth year DVM students, interns, and residents of other disciplines, along with training and mentoring of ECVCN residents is expected. The remaining effort is to be spent on scholarly activity including research and graduate student supervision. Independent research or research of a collaborative nature is expected.

The OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) has a full spectrum of specialists available for consultation or support. The veterinary hospital and research laboratories offer state of the art diagnostic equipment such as indirect calorimetry and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The faculty and staff of the Department of Clinical Studies and the OVC-HSC are committed to delivering the very best of patient care.
