Position Description:

The School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph invites applications for a one-year teaching-focused contractually limited position in Cybersecurity at the Assistant Professor level, with an expected start date of July 1, 2023 and no later than September 1, 2023.

Qualifications:

Education and Background:
At the time of appointment, candidates are required to have a PhD in Computer Science, cybersecurity or a related field. Those with previous academic experience, including post-doctoral or prior academic appointments, as well as research technician roles, will be considered an asset. Relevant industrial experience will also be taken into consideration.

Scholarship:
Candidates should demonstrate capacity for conducting research in cybersecurity or closely related fields.

Teaching:
Strong interest in teaching both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the field of cybersecurity is essential for candidates. Additionally, experience in teaching graduate courses and/or supervising graduate students is highly valued.

Service:
Community engagement is a crucial factor, and candidates must provide evidence of their involvement in activities such as organizing conferences, participating in outreach programs, volunteering, or being actively involved in student clubs or councils. Such evidence demonstrates the candidate's ability to provide valuable service to the School, University, and research community.

Expectations

The successful candidates are expected to have 70% of Distribution of Efforts (DoE) on teaching, which maps to at least 5 courses per year, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They are expected to devote the remaining 30% of DoE to research and to provide service to the School, College, and University.

School of Computer Science:
The School has 5 undergraduate programs with 954 undergraduate students and 4 graduate programs with 108 graduate students. It is currently in a growth cycle that could see undergraduate and graduate enrolments increase significantly. The School of Computer Science is currently comprised of 26 faculty and 11 staff.
