Award winning FARE graduate students...

On Tuesday December 2, the Ontario Agricultural College held their annual Graduate Awards Banquet. A number of FARE graduate students received awards at this event, including:

Longfeng Wang, who received the Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Scholarship,

Emily Brennan and Rachel Vriezen, who both received a Soden Memorial Scholarship in Agriculture,

Jocelin On, who received the Canadian Dairy Commission MSc Scholarship and the Debora Whale/Poultry Industry Council Graduate Scholarship,

FARE Faculty Honoured at 2013-2014 CAES Awards

The Canadian Agricultural Economics Society hosted an awards ceremony in Vancouver to recognize and encourage excellence in agricultural economics and related fields. FARE's own Alan Kerr, Alfons Weesink, Rakhal Sarker, Rachael Vriezen and Tor Tolhurst were all recognized for their achievements.

FARE M.Sc. student, Robin Smart, won this years CAES Outstanding M.Sc. Thesis award for her thesis entitled "Measuring the impact of food safety recalls on firms: An event study if the 2008 Listeria Monocytogenes recall in Canada".  Congratulations to Robin!

CAES Outstanding Master's Thesis Award to Pam Laughland

Pamela Laughland was a co-winner of this year’s Canadian Agricultural Economics Society Outstanding Master’s thesis award.

Douglas McRorie Memorial Scholarship Provides Financial Support for Students

Mr. Michael Weber, studying Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Guelph has been awarded a Douglas McRorie Memorial Scholarship. His research is estimating the effects of environmental policies on farm operators and helping them improve efficiency by developing some key performance indicators.

FORMER FARE FACULTY MEMBER HONORED

Congratulations to Tom Funk who was named the "Agri Marketer of the Year" by the Canadian Agri Marketing Association at the "Best of CAMA" held in Quebec on Nov. 6, 2008.  Details are available on the attached Press Release.

Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service

Retired professor and former Chair of the department, T.K. (Sandy) Warley received the Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service at OAC's Convocation on Thursday, June 12th, 2008. This award honours an individual who has played a pivotal role in the functioning of the institution and who has influenced the quality of academic life at U of G. Professor Warley came to Guelph as Chair of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Education in 1970 and remains one of the strongest advocates for his discipline, OAC and the University.
