Prof. Alfons Weersink: Investigating the intersection of policy, people and the planet.

Agriculture is at the intersection of many issues such as poverty, health problems and environmental concerns. Prof. Alfons Weersink, Department of Food, Agriculture and Resource Economics, is investigating how new agricultural technologies such as bioproducts and big data can affect producers, the markets, and the environment. Currently, Weersink and his team are examining trade-offs in the Ontario dairy industry between milk production and its environmental impact. This information will be used to develop cost-effective means to improve milk production while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
