Here and in Europe, Central America and Brazil cultivated as ornamental and occasionally for its pigment-containing bark. In southern regions of the former Soviet Union, it is cultivated in plantations for production of alkaloids, mainly sanguinarine. In USA classified as promising new phytomedicinal crop for production of sanguinarine and recently cultivated by commercial farms in Colorado. Used as insecticide and against fungal spores in China. Shoot extracts have proven to be of anti-bacterial activity(1). |
