Ethnobotanical Notes: It is the most northern and cold-resistant member of the walnut family and is used for this reason in breeding programmes. The bark is used as a drug in America ("Cortex cinereae"). North American Indians used the oleiferous seeds as food, and immature fruits were pickled. Fruit hulls were used for dyeing of textiles (yellow and orange colour).(1)
