Ethnobotanical Notes: Fruits - sometimes to 20 mm - are sour and highly astringent. Processing possible to jam, pie, jelly and vine, vinegar or sloe-brandy. In Russia a special sloe-liqueur "Ternovka" is made. The pits can be pressed for oil (37%). Roots and bark are used for tanning. Dried leaves give a tea, and dried flowers and fruits are of importance in folk medicine(1).
