Formerly also much used as medicinal herb in folk medicine (especially rootstock and flowers). In India and Cuba still grown for that purpose. Largely cultivated as ornamental especially for its sweet odour. In N Italy, S France, Irland (?), and along the southern beach of Crimea formerly grown for the essential oil from leaves and flowers used in perfumery(1). |
