Mostly it is planted as ornamental. A. rosea is an old medicinal plant. Today it is used mainly for the dark red dye, which is produced from the flowers, for food (e.g. wine). The dried flowers are a component of medicinal teas. The stem fibres also used in former times. Young leaves are boiled and eaten sometimes(1). |
