Ethnobotanical Notes: The young sprouts contian volatile oil. The herb, rhizomes and seeds are used a tonic, antifebrile, anti-rheumatic and diuretic medicine, and in India, an oil is produced from the roots which is laxative and sedative. Saponins extracted from the shoots have been demonstrated to have cancerostatic activity. The fruit are used as diuretic, tonic and aphrodisiac remedy in India (1).
