In the 15th cent. grown in England and Germany as a leaf vegetable. The content of clove oil in the roots caused their use in the past as an admixture to soups, vine, beer and brandy. The activities of clove oil as analgeticum, sedativum and desinficiens are used by applying the root drug ("Radix Gei urbani") by phytomedicinal practitioners and in the folk medicine. Cultivation in the last time is encouraged by herbalists in Europe and North America(1). |
