In Central Europe sometimes cultivated as a medicinal plant and fibre crop since the middle of the 19th cent.Traditionally and officinally used as urologic, tonic, vitamin source and hair restorer (leaves, seeds, roots); also serves for extraction of chlorophyll, used as a colouring agent (E 140) in foods and medicines. Used as a rennet in preparing cheeses, for making beer and as a fodder plant, especially for poultry(1). |
