Funding for this award is provided by the Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC) Legacy Fund. The award provides up to ten $7,500.00 awards per year to support graduate research in food production or food processing.
The student will receive $5,000.00 in the form of a Graduate Research Assistantship, distributed over two semesters.
The remaining $2,500.00 will be held in trust by the Department of Food Science and is available to cover expenses directly related to your research project (such as travel and accommodation necessary to conduct the research, direct research expenses, travel to relevant conferences). This $2,500.00 must be used by December of the year you receive the award.
You can access the $2,500.00 held in trust by any of the following:
1. Claim by petty cash voucher (for submitting receipts totalling $100.00 or less per semester)
3. FS Order form – for ordering supplies or services related to research.
Awards are available to full or part-time students who are pursuing a graduate degree in Food Science or Food Safety & Quality Assurance with a research project that involves an industry partner.
Selection criteria include the quality of the proposal and demonstration of the impact of the student’s work with industry on his/her university education.
Preference will be given to students who have not previously received this award.
